I am a travel freak and love to explore new places and feel and experience their real beauty. During my trip to Himachal Pradesh, a beautiful state situated in North India, I got the opportunity to visit Manikaran. As the name depicts, the literal meaning of Himachal Pradesh is Region of Snowy Mountains.
The state has been blessed with a number of natural springs that are famous for their medicinal properties. The springs of Himachal Pradesh fall into three categories: Simple Springs, Mineral Springs and Thermal Springs. Simple springs are just like any other ordinary natural spring whereas the mineral springs contain water with some mineral dissolved in it. Manikaran, about which I am talking is the third type of spring – Thermal Springs that are very hot. It is also a place of pilgrimage for Hindus and Sikhs. It is situated under the snowy peaks of the Parvati Valley. The hot springs at Manikaran come out to surface with pressure and are famous for their great medicinal properties. There is no sulphur or iron mixed in the waters, but it is said to be radio active. The view of hot steam rising from the surface of water is awesome. The rocks surroundings the springs are also very hot.
The water of Manikaran springs is so hot that rice, chick peas, lentils and vegetables etc. can be boiled and cooked in it. There is a Gurudwara, a place of worship for Sikhs, where food and night stay is provided to the visitors. In this Gurudwara, the lentils, rice and vegetables are boiled in the hot water of these springs and served to the visitors after cooking them fine. The most amazing thing is that the meal is also very delicious. Usually it takes only 20 to 30 minutes to get the food cooked.
The healing properties of the Manikaran Springs are well known all over the country and Rheumatism and muscular pains are said to cured very fast by taking bath in this water.
It was a great and different experience visiting this place and I would love to have another chance to visit Manikaran and watch these magical springs. You can also book Manali tour packages to experience the beauty of the place. Trust me you will be mesmerised.
