The Desert Land of Pali

The Desert State of Rajasthan certainly has quite a few number of interesting travel destinations. Pali is one such place. You can see a lot of temples, dams, step wells, and even enjoy the fairs and festivals at Pali.

Pali is a district in the state of Rajasthan, and Pali town is the district headquarters. Pali is an industrial town that is located 72 km to the south east of Jodhpur on the banks of the Bandi river.

Traditionally, Pali was a trade center. This region was a stronghold of various clans of Rajputs and resisted Mughal expansion for a long time.

Pali region has many Hindu and Jain temples and other monuments. It is also famous for the many temple fairs held regularly.

Jawai Dam: The Jawai Bandh built across the Jawai River is one of the biggest dams in Rajasthan, and it is also a good spot for a picnic.

Jain Temples: There are numerous Jain Temples in this part of Rajasthan. Some of the more famous of them are the temples of Shri Nadol Jain Tirth, Shri RataMahaveer Jain Tirth, Shri Varkana Parswanath Jain Tirth, Ghanerao, Shri Narlai Jain Tirth, Shri Shantinath Jain Temple Sumer, Muchhal Mahavir Temple, Shri Takhatgarh Jain Tirth, Shri Astapadh Jain Tirth Rani, Shri Korthaji Tirth at Bamnera Navlakha Mandir and Shri Manmohan Parshvanath Jinalaya Banta.

Hindu Temples: The Somnath Mandir located in the middle of the city was built by Kumarpal Solanki, a King of Gujarat. Parshuram Mahadev Temple, a Shiva Temple, is located on top of one of the hills of the Aravalli Range.

Nimbo Ka Nath Mahadev Temple is located on the Sanderao to Falna road in the district of Pali. There is a traditional belief that the Pandavas stayed here during their exile. Other temples here include the Naulakha Jain temple, Bangur Mandir, Bajrang Bag, Karni Mata Temple and Sai Baba temple.

Most traditional fairs in India are associated with temples. In Pali, the Shri Sonana Khetlaji's at Aana Fair, Nimbo ka Nath’s (Nimbeshwar Mahadev’s) fair and, Parshurama Mahadevji's Fair are some of the famous fairs.

Pali is definitely a must-visit for those who are interested in learning more about the culture and rich heritage of Rajasthan.
