Amber Fort is also spelled and pronounced as the Amer Fort. Amber Fort is usually pronounced as Amer Fort. In 1592, construction of the Fort was started by Raja Man Singh I. However, the Amber Fort took its present form during the reign of Raja Jai Singh I. Amber fort is located on a high hill in a small town called Amber which is situated near Jaipur in Rajasthan India. It is one of the major tourist attractions for India tours in the Jaipur area. Amber used to be the capital of the Kachhwaha clan, till Jaipur was made the official capital in 1727.
This beautiful Rajasthan Fort is built in white marble and red sandstone consisting of the Diwan-e-Aam or the "Hall of Public Audience", the Diwan-e-Khas or the "Hall of Private Audience", the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace) or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over the water cascade within the palace. To add to its charm, Maotha Lake makes its foreground. The crystal mirror image of the Fort, on the still waters of the lake, seems to be a beautiful illusion. At the entrance to the palace near the fort’s Ganesh Gate, there is also a temple dedicated to Sila Devi, a goddess of the Chaitanya cult which was gifted to Raja Mansingh when he had defeated the Raja of Jessore in Bengal.
The palace was lived in by the Rajput Maharajas and their families.
